Botas ends its production for Adidas

Article Abstract:

Botas (Skutec, Czech Republic), sports footwear manufacturer, is ending its made-to-order production for Adidas-Solomon (A-S). The reason is the high price of Czech workforce. That is why A-S will go to the cheaper market in Asia. The damping should not influence Botas's economy. Botas will focus on production under its own trade mark. Contracts from A-S represented 16.5% of Botas's total production volume in 2000. The share should decrease to 5% in 2001. Botas manufactures its own sports boots too. It has asserted itself in domestic chains. The firm exports 68% of its production currently, mainly to Scandinavian countries. It is also returning to the Russian market gradually. The company has 600 employees in 2001, about 100 persons less compared to 1999. The firm saw proceeds of CEK 271 mil and a net profit of CEK 137,000 in 2000. It has concentrated its production to two plants in Skutec and Policka, the Czech Republic. Botas has a stock of over CEK 205 mil. It has a 52% majority stake held by Benal (Prague, Czech Republic) and nearly a 14% stake by M. Cambell & Sons (Cyprus).
