Cable and Wireless will finalise its restructuring with the sale of a stake of 54% in Hong Kong Telecom which will provide additional cash for the company' internet activities. Cable and Wireless is focusing on the provision of business data and internet services, and is upgrading and expanding an internet protocol network. There is speculation that C and W could become a takeover target, with possible bidders including Bell Atlantic and Deutsche Telekom. C and W has moved out of the mobile phone business, which could be a hasty move.
