Canadian CA elected president of IAA

Article Abstract:

Robert Gowan of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was elected president of the Interamerican Accounting Association (IAA). He is the second Canadian to hold the post, after John Marshall in 1977-1979. IAA is an international association for accounting groups composed of members from North, Central, South American and Caribbean countries. Gowan hopes to promote trade between Canada and Latin America. He intends to use his new position to support this objective.

University of Waterloo hosts auditing symposium

Article Abstract:

The University of Waterloo's Centre for Accounting Research and Education sponsored an auditing symposium at the School of Accountancy. It was a well-attended affair with participants from Canada, USA, Denmark and New Zealand. Canadian Auditor General Denis Desautels and Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' Jim Sylph were among the more prominent guests. Academic research on accounting and auditing was the symposium's theme.

The CICA is on the move

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) will relocate to 277 Wellington St. W., Toronto, Ontario, in September 1992. The Institute's next location will be nearer Toronto's commercial center, and offers easier access to transportation for commuting employees. The new building is more spacious and has more facilities compared to CICA's offices at 150 Bloor St. W. in Toronto.
