Car parts mergers lead to a healthier whole

The world car parts industry has been affected by pressure from manufacturers seeking to reduce the number of their suppliers and pressing for international suppliers. This is likely to lead to restructuring of the industry through mergers and acquisitions. The process is likely to be gradual, argues one UK car parts company. Move are already afoot toward consolidation. T and N is seeking to acquire Kolbenschmidt, while Lucas is seeking to acquire a stake in Valeo.

Hambros bank: on its knees

Article Abstract:

Hambros Bank may face legal action and a fine from the UK Securities and Futures Association (SFA) over its role as adviser to Andrew Regan. Regan made a bid for the Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS) and allegedly used confidential data stolen by a CWS executive. Hambros shares have underperformed and the company could be under pressure to restructure whatever action the SFA undertakes. Hambros could also become a bid target.

Share bonanza axed on investor pressure

Article Abstract:

UK railroad operator Prism Rail has dropped its disputed boardroom share initiative following pressure from institutional investors. The 10 founder members of Prism have received 17 million pounds sterling-worth of free shares as part of a deal worth some 40 million pounds sterling. Among the institutions believed to have pressurized the company to abandon the scheme are Kleinwort Benson, Schroders and Gartmore.
