On the Hill: all powder, no shot

Article Abstract:

Congressional affairs behind the regional Bell operating companies' and the newspaper industry's conflict reflect historical events in the 1930s and the impact of the Biltmore Agreement. The Bell companies contend that a fiber-opticnetwork is advantageous to the public while publishers argue against limited information sources. Consumer groups oppose the Bell companies' move as monopolistic while activists for the handicapped support the expansion. However, the latter is interpreted by some as exploitative of the handiicapped for all its good intentions.

Carpet ecology

Article Abstract:

Interface CEO Ray C. Anderson has shown that profit-making and concern for the environment can go hand in hand. Substantial reductions in material and fuel consumption have increased company revenues to $1.135 billion from $800 million. At the same time, carbon dioxide emissions were lowered and non-recyclable content in fabrics decreased from 99.2% to 74.6%. Innovation is a company credo which also influences its designs. As Anderson points out, social equity means taking care of the earth and human capital along with financial capital.

The power of an apology

Article Abstract:

A technique is presented on how to apologise more effectively than just saying an often insincere "I'm sorry" so that the injured party can have revenge and justice can be served. An alternative way to apologize is to work out what is missing or broken, and try to make it complete again.
