Lofty ambitions brought down to earth

Article Abstract:

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia sports the world's tallest building, the Petronas Tower, which in light of the recent collapse of the Malaysian economy, increasingly seems a symbol of reckless spending. Malaysian infrastructure projects traditionally have been financed domestically, but the collapse of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange makes it difficult to find project financing in the domestic banking sector.

Rebuilding the banking system

Article Abstract:

State Bank of Pakistan Governor Muhammad Yaqub has the task of rebuilding Pakistan's banking system, which is riddled with problems including bad debts. To solve the bad debt problem, the Parliament passed new foreclosure laws that greatly aid the collection of debts. An amnesty for debtors also has been offered where incentives are offered to debtors to settle their debts.
