Celebrated is a UK restaurant group which acquired a restaurant in Manchester, England, for 400,000 pounds sterling in April 1996. The company is also acquiring AJ's Family Restaurants, with 16 restaurants, for 2.2 million pounds, and is carrying out a 565,000 share placing. The company has sold Scusi pasta outlets to Pizza express, and is focusing on its Starvin' Marvin's and JW Johnson's brands. The company sees its main competitors as Littel Chefs and Happy Eaters but sees its product are more modern.

Environmental Property Services (EPS) was previously called Dean Corporation and has demerged its contracting services and housebuilding activities. The company carries out facilities management and property maintenance with local government as a key client. EPS is also expanding its activities for commercial clients and is considering an acquisition. The company could achieve a profit of 1.35 million pounds sterling for 1999, and could benefit from both organic growth and a boost from acquisitions.

UK facilities management firm Mitie has enjoyed strong, reliable growth and its shares are still a good buy. Mitie operates according to a formula, in which it owns the majority of a new firm, with the entrepreneur holding the rest, with Mitie then buying out the business after five-10 years.
