Champion Parts Inc (CREB) will nominate a representative of an investor group headed by General Refractories Co to its slate of directors in return for the group's support. The announcement follows a Schedule 13D filing by General Refractories on its acquisition of 269,000 shares, or 7.4% of CREB's 3.66 million shares. Insiders own 17% of total shares, employees own 13% while Echlin Corp owns 16.5%. CREB suffered an 18% drop in sales for the 1st qtr 1992 but had a 9% advance in earnings to $0.06 a share.

Intermet Corp's profits for the three months ended Jun 1992 rose by 74% due to a 29% sales growth. The company's $10 million sales increase was mainly due to the acquisition of PBM Industries Inc last Mar 1992 and its satisfactory US and European automotive parts shipments. Chrysler and Ford are responsible for 20% of Intermet's revenues. Dir J. Mason Reynolds acquired 10,000 shares at 9 1/4 last Jul 1, 1992. The company has a 16-cent dividend on its 21 million shares.

Investment banker and Monro board member Peter Solomon acquired 30,000 shares last Nov 18, 1992, increasing his holdings to 14.7%.
