Charitable concerns

Article Abstract:

Charities are increasingly using consultants to help with investment strategies. There is a wide range of charities in the United Kingdom, all needing to spend money, often in a steady way, and this need for income affects their asset allocation. Charities are also affected by regulations covering how they can invest. WM company produces benchmarks for charities to measure their investment performance. The investment environment for charities is becoming less benign and not many assets will be capable of generating levels of income needed by charities.

Article Abstract:

UK charity trustees have to balance the need for an income while also protecting the capital resources of the charity. Fixed interest assets are used by many charity funds seeking to achieve high income levels. UK equities have tended to perform better than government securities. Capital growth can be achieved from investment in overseas equities. Index-linked government securities offer low levels of risk with assured running yields.
