China's communication satellites and their benefits

Article Abstract:

China embarked on an ambitious space program to overhaul its communication infrastructure, by launching its first satellite, DFH-1, in spr 1970. Since 1984, five communication satellites were launched, the traditionally backward communication systems was revamped, and a number of Earth stations with satellite links in several cities were installed. Several fields such as post and telecommunications, petroleum, mining, water conservation, military and weather forecasting have benefitted tremendously from China's space policy.

Space exploration in China

Article Abstract:

China's history and plans for interstellar, planetary and lunar exploration is presented along with a framework for the exploration of Mars. China currently is developing uses for near Earth satellites in the fields of communication, Earth resources and meteorology. Plans for the decade of the 90s is presented. It consists of three stages; namely, preparation, reconaissance and comparisons of data from local and foreign models. Upper atmosphere exploration is the primary mission.

Fast-track development of space technology in China

Article Abstract:

China's Ninth Five-Year Plan targets space technology as a priority area to overcome challenges from rising domestic demand for application satellites, international space competition, and entry of foreign companies into the domestic market. State support for space will rise with the focus on better management of invested funds. Serial production of satellite components is proposed to improve product reliability and reduce development costs.
