Rivals rev up for battle

Article Abstract:

A dispute between General Motors and Volkswagen has not ended with the resignation of Jose Ignacio Lopez, a key figure in the dispute. General Motors claims that Lopez stole documents when he and other executives left the company to work for Volkswagen. Volkswagen is still paying a salary to Lopez who could work in a consultancy capacity for Volkswagen. This would anger General Motors, and the dispute could become more acrimonius. Volkswagen shares have fallen as a result of the dispute.

Volkswagen: GM sues

Article Abstract:

A legal dispute between General Motors (GM) and Volkswagen has deepened with action taken by GM against Volkswagen in the US on a number of counts such as conspiracy and racketeering. Volkswagen shares dropped in price after the legal action was announced. There have been reports from anonymous sources that GM would settle the issue if Volkswagen offered an apology and dismissed Jose Ignacio Lopez, who joined Volkswagen from GM in 1993.
