Coast Guard might drop ICGS design, choose another firm for cutter

Article Abstract:

The Coast Guard is assessing whether to go ahead with its plans to procure a Lockheed Martin Corp.-Northrop Grumman Corp. joint venture design for 58 Fast Response Cutters (FRCs) or whether to obtain vessels designed from other firm. The joint venture, Integrated Coast Guard Services (ICGS), was awarded the Deepwater program contract to supply the Coast Guard with cutters, aircraft, unmanned vehicles and communications networks linking them together in 2002.

Should Coast Guard buy LCS?: Coast guard cutters and Navy LCSs may mix duties

Article Abstract:

Congress should consider the division of homeland security duties between the future Navy Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) and the new cutters that the Coast Guard might purchase in its $24 billion, 25-year Deepwater acquisition program. LCSs might perform missions similar to or overlapping those of planned new cutters that the Coast Guard would purchase in its Deepwater program.
