Comdex/UK pulls 'corporates.' (Comdex/UK '96)

Article Abstract:

Comdex's debut exhibit in the UK was a mild success with a modest 31,000 attendees, but its organizers, Softbank Comdex Inc., are convinced enough to make the show an annual event. Participants had varied reactions regarding the show, with some noticing that the show failed to attract non-UK attendees while others believe that the quality of corporate buyers is good. Although participants were waiting for bigger corporate names, only small, mostly UK-based firms were able to make it. Meanwhile, Softbank has lined up similar shows in India, Canada, Korea, Japan, France and China.

Right on track

Article Abstract:

An Internet World Wide Web-based advertising effort by 3Com Corp to sell network interface cards to businesses has been so successful that other company divisions have opted to use similar promotional tactics. An evaluation of the initiative found that its success largely hinged on 3Com's decision to retain the services of Times Direct Marketing. The firm used special software to analyze the performance of 3Com's online ads to change banners, e-mail, Web sites and media buys based on performance.
