Coming home to roost

Article Abstract:

Investment trusts allow for changes in portfolios with no need to pay capital gains tax. This is especially attractive for United Kingdom investors following changes to the capital gains tax system which should benefit those investors with long-term holdings. The UK General sector is a fruitful area to seek long-term holdings, as is the International General. Trusts available in the UK General sector include Fleming Claverhouse and Mercury Keystone, both of which have performed well.

A wide Pep search can pay off

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom investors can choose from a wide range of growth and income funds, with over 90 unit trusts in the sector, as well as investment trusts. Advisers tend to recommend unit trusts for savers with limited assets, but investors who have already included unit trusts in their portfolio may wish to diversify into investment trusts. Some stocks that can be included in personal equity plans (Peps) cannot be included in individual savings accounts (Isas).
