Company facts: Time Warner

Article Abstract:

Time Warner was created from the merger of Time and Warner Communications in 1989. The group is involved in motion pictures, television and magazines. Time also plans to acquire Turner Broadcasting. The acquisition of Warner led to a debt of $11 billion which has meant high servicing costs. Sales of assets are required despite an improvement in trading. The company's debts could hamper its progress, though Time Warner believes that a combination of information and distribution media will lead to large profits.

Flextech

Article Abstract:

Flextech has become a TV company and was previously a petroleum company. It has made a profit on a single occasion during the time it has been involved in the media, and is forecast to achieve a profit in 1999. The banning of bundling arrangements in the United Kingdom markets by the Independent Television Commission has created problems for Flextech, and the ruling has been upheld by a High Court appeal. The company will have to invest in marketing in orde to boost numbers of subscribers.
