Article Abstract:

The report by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) on StockExchange market maker rules has fuelled debate about the relative merits of quote-driven andorder-driven dealing systems. The OFT has cricticsed the privileges that the market makersenjoy in the quote-driven London Stock Exchange SEAQ system. Several overseas exchangesuse the order driven dealing system which matches anonymous buyers and sellers. The EuropeanAssociation of Securities Dealers (EASD) has proposed the EASDAQsystem.

London throws in the towel

Article Abstract:

Trade Indemnity is a credit insurer which is to be acquired by Compagnie Financiere SFAC, a French company which has Assurances Generales de France as a major shareholder. Trade Indemnity was affected by problems from 1989 to 1991. The acquisition will leave the UK credit insurance market dominated by SFAC and NCM from the Netherlands. There is potential for growth in this market and the acquisition could benefit Compagnie Financiere considerably.
