Article Abstract:

Competition between businesses in South Africa has been affected by economic sanctions and a policy of protection for agriculture and industry. The government seeks to increase competition in the 1990s and is concerned that large companies may prevent the advancement of black people. The government aims to boost economic growth to 6% from 3% and is seeking to encourage black entrepreneurs. JCI, a large mining concern, has been divided into three parts, with one part aimed at promoting the interests of black people.
