Reduction of constraints on arbitrage trading and market efficiency: an examination of ex-day returns in Hong Kong after introduction of electronic settlement

Article Abstract:

Issues related to the economic benefits of short-term trading in the Hong Kong financial markets are examined, focusing on the conclusion that freedom in trading increases the pricing efficiency in markets. Topics include the economic climate in Hong Kong, where neither dividends or capital gains are taxed, and the role electronic systems played in increasing short-term trading.
