Construct measurement in strategic management research: Illusion or reality?

Article Abstract:

The extent and consequences of measurement error in strategic management research are discussed where the problems of attenuation are rarely addressed in strategic management articles published in journals between 1998 to 2000 due to measurement error. Reviewers and editors are required to adopt consistent and high standards for reducing measurement problems and promoting more effective research designs.

A measurement model of strategic planning

Article Abstract:

Strategic planning has been the focus of numerous studies on management techniques. However, there has been a continued dearth on studies on the measurement and validation of the constructs used in strategic planning researches. Previous studies on this area point to varying usage of vocabulary, as well as absence of standards for assessing and coordinating research findings. This research proposes a scheme for measuring the different aspects of strategic planning, namely, mission statement, analysis of performance patterns, assessment of competitors, long-term and short-term aims and action plans and performance appraisal. The model was found to have superior validity over mono-indicator scales as evidenced by the results of a criterion validity test.
