Opinions of professional buyers toward a new, alternative red meat: ostrich

Article Abstract:

Professional meat buyers have little knowledge with regards to ostrich meat, which is considered to be a new, alternative red meat. The lack of awareness concerning ostrich meat among professional buyers is credited to the fact that the ostrich meat market in US is still in its infancy stage. A low priced branded, 6-ounce ostrich filet is found to be the most preferred ostrich product in restaurant and retail markets.

Meat packing plant production planning: application of mixed integer goal programming

Article Abstract:

A mixed integer, goal programming model may be used to improve management of a meat packing plant. The model specifically aims to optimize returns to fixed resources, restrict excess production of meat products and lessen shortages in meat production. Application of the model on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Michael Packing Plant revealed its effectiveness in enhancing plant throughput and efficiency.
