Covariance and coiffure

Article Abstract:

Stock prices of leading retailers might be assumed to perform in a similar way, rising with strong consumer spending, and falling with weak spending, but this is not always the case. There is only a weak link between these stocks, and this is important when selecting stocks to reduce volatility in a portfolio. Investors should aim to select stocks that tend to move in different direction, and they should also assess how far they tend to move in relation to the market as a whole. Investors also seek stocks that are likely to see price rises.
