Data Transfer to the Outside World

Article Abstract:

Computer technology needs to be more widely utilized to transfer information between organizations as well as within organizations. Costs in both time and money can be effectively cut. Duplication of efforts can be minimized. Examples to illustrate this are supplied including automatic transfers of funds, computer handling of invoicing, order-filling, supply-replenishing and order- taking, and automativ payroll deductions with proper organizations funded. Problems with full utilization include the lack of universal availability of computer systems within organizations and non-compatibility between existing systems.

Data market may shake up census

Article Abstract:

An emerging market for data designed to meet user needs may soon cause the transfer of census responsibilities to local authorities. The Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS) is conducting a review to study the possibility of delegating information gathering to authorities who are better aware of the local needs for data. However, the OPCS still wants to retain a regulatory body that will oversee local data gathering and compilation of national statistics. This review also considers the importance of censuses to resource allocation for the National Health Service and local governments.

Record housing transfer row breaks at Bromley

Article Abstract:

Broomleigh Housing Association acquired local authority housing from Bromley Borough valued at a transfer price of 117 million pounds sterling. The transfer was criticized by Bromley council's Labour party leader Selwyn Ward, who argued that the deal was rushed and that the homes' asking prices were erroneously inflated, considering that transfer values were based on projected future rent levels. However, Borough Secretary Walter Million quickly denied the charges, saying the transfer date was announced to take effect on Apr 6, 1992.
