Decoupling risk taking from income stream uncertainty: a holistic model of risk

Article Abstract:

A two-component model, comprised of income stream uncertainty and managerial risk taking, is presented to identify factors involved in organizational risk occurrence. The model identifies both organizational and environmental factors that foster risk taking, and suggests that the environmental factors result primarily from managerial choices.

Disentangling compensation and employment risks using the behavioral agency model

Article Abstract:

The Behavioral Agency Model (BAM) was used to examine the influence of various forms of risk bearing on perceived risk taking in firms issuing an initial public offering from 1993-1995. Employment risk and compensation variability correspond to more risk taking, while downside risk and stock option value mean less risk taking.
