Defense authorization bill imperiled by torture fracas

Article Abstract:

Representative Duncan Hunter (Republican, California), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has refused to sign a House-Senate conference committee report on the Department of Defense (DOD) authorization bill for the fiscal year September 30, 2006, unless the White House provides some written assurances. Hunter wants written assurance from the White House stating that it wouldn't harm the US intelligence-gathering capabilities.
