Deming's real legacy: an easier way to manage knowledge

Article Abstract:

W. Edwards Deming's enduring legacy is the plan-do-study-act problem-solving cycle which has become the cornerstone of the total quality management movement. This cycle has enabled many US firms to successfully steer their knowledge-driven operations because problem solving and knowledge creation are similar processes. Its success is based on Deming's recommendations to redesign problem-solving processes, jobs and employee development programs, and use special tools for organizing, analyzing and interpreting problem data.
