Despite the 'Bang' and the 'Crash', London still good market for U.S. firms

Article Abstract:

US companies find that listing on the UK's London Stock Exchange and Unlisted Securities Market offers growth potential despite problems caused by the deregulation of UK investment banking in 1986 and the worldwide crash of Oct 1987. The UK offers a growing base of sophisticated investors and boasts a strong economy. UK investors are currently more receptive to initial public offerings (IPOs) than US investors, partially due to attractive IPO tax advantages in the UK. The falling US dollar also makes IPOs by US firms popular with UK investors. Analysts expect the UK market to strengthen as it adjusts to the new rules of deregulation.

IPOs, poised for a comeback, require strong management

Article Abstract:

Private companies considering initial public offerings (IPOs) can ease the conversion process with careful planning, and by having strong operating and financial reporting systems in place. Today's market is considered to be nervous and unpredictable, so lead managers must look closely at market conditions before and during the IPO. Special emphasis should be placed on the IPO company's long-term earning potential. The value of an appropriate law firm is also important in making a successful IPO.

Medium-term notes offer the ultimate in financing flexibility

Article Abstract:

Large and middle-market corporations are recognizing that medium-term securities are good sources for financing. The flexibility and variety of these notes permit corporations to design their issues to suit market conditions. An electronic process has been established by Chemical Bank, New York, to improve recordkeeping and decrease the time for issuance. The market for medium-term notes is still relatively unexplored by the potential users.
