Different roles for subsidiaries: the case of multinational corporations in Spain

Article Abstract:

Subsidiaries can play different roles in the strategies of multinational corporations (MNC). The strategies of subsidiaries can be analyzed in terms of the localization of activities and the degree of integration of activities. The strategies of 50 Spanish subsidiaries of MNCs were analyzed in terms of 11 variables, including the integration of the purchasing function, the percentage of products exported, and the integration of manufacturing processes. The results indicated that Spanish subsidiaries had an important role in the internationalization of the Spanish economy.
