Diving into offshore investments: offshore funds offer the more sophisticated investor the advantage of investment flexibility and tax efficiency

Article Abstract:

Offshore funds have traditionally been seen as tax dodges particularly when UK income tax rates were high and foreign exchange was strictly controlled. However the lines between onshore and offshore funds have blurred with the fall in tax rates and the closing of many tax loopholes. There are still about 6,000 offshore funds in low-tax financial centres offering more flexibility on tax payments. Offshore funds come in the form of accumulation funds which do not pay out income, and distributor funds which pay out gross income liable to income tax.

Once around the track: Tracker Peps have proved enormously popular

Article Abstract:

There are several fully Pepable trackers covering European markets including the L&G European Indexed fund. Trackers seem to offer better returns than actively managed funds, but a tracker is geared not to outperform and will usually trail the index it tracks. Tracking error measures the accuracy of the tracked index and the level of the error is the main concern of retail investors.
