Article Abstract:

Dow Chemical Co initiated a massive overhaul of its World Wide Web site as part of a renewed customer focus. The site features a new design that gives the chemical company a more personal image. Dow Chemical transferred control of the site from interactive agency Modem Media.Poppe Tyson to an internal team headed by Kanina Blanchard, senior communications resources manager for the chemical company's Internet and intranet services. Blanchard's team has been given the task of training Dow Chemical's different business units to develop their own Web businesses.

Companies should consider many factors when employing personalization for their virtual sales staff in their web sites. Cost could be more than $250,000 with software alone costing around $15,000 to $50,000. However, personalization vendors, such as Wisewire, are providing solutions by affording its software on a service-bureau, where the content can be filtered through its server at $900 a month. Others, such as Personal Logic, are implementing the conceptualized design themselves with special arrangements for the payment.
