EARNing a way out

Article Abstract:

Burlington Motor Holdings CEO Thomas Grojean relies on exchangeable administrative reorganization notes (EARN) to take his company out of bankruptcy. EARNs are promissory notes which are convertible to common stocks listed in Nasdaq. Conversion of preferred stocks to common stocks enables the firm to rise from bankruptcy as a public company with a strong financial base. Under this scheme, Burlington receives 15 cents on the dollar, while the rest are used for company operations and payment of debts.
