Effective target tolerance in an inverted Fitts task

Article Abstract:

Assessment of four experimental scenarios illustrated that Fitts' law can be extended for reciprocal and discrete movements in cases where probe width is finite. Incorporation of probe width to target width to attain an effective target tolerance is a vital step in estimating the index of task difficulty. Effective target tolerance is a necessity in applications where foot or finger actuate devices by fulfilling the role of probes.

Data-entry keyboard geometry and keying movement times

Article Abstract:

A study of 15 different simulated keyboards for movement times on keyboard arrays elaborated findings of Drury model and showed the dependence of the movement times on the index of difficulty (ID). ID was calculated for both less than and more than the finger pad widths. An effect of the number of keys moved on the movement times, which was not showed by the Drury model is also observed.

Concurrent manual-decision tasks

Article Abstract:

Sequential and concurrent processing of decisions and movements are investigated. Literature shows that such tasks may be modeled simply for the case of sequential processing. Results show that the Hick component of a task is dependent only on signal uncertainty. The time for movement of the sequential task was found to be dependent on signal uncertainty and Fitts' index of difficulty.
