Effects on the location of the centre of gravity and the foot pressure contribution to standing balance associated with ageing

Article Abstract:

The limitations of head and lumbar movements with regard to the change of base of support (BOS) were studied to understand the ability of maintaining standing balance with the factor of ageing. Significant differences were found between the young and elderly group, with the young group using the muscle activity of the toe to maintain balance, while the elderly group was unable to use the toe's muscle activity sufficiently.
