Electronic commerce and the threat of brand X

Article Abstract:

Electronic commerce is anticipated to significantly affect the financial services industry through expansion campaigns that do not support branding. These campaigns promote purchase options that are anticipated to corner consumers in defined geographic markets such as financial services. Not only is the Internet considered totally different from other types of commercial channels, it supports consumers with the ability to control the commercial processes associated with demand and supply economics. It gives prospective clients the capability to compare and analyze financial services products through intelligent agents, collaborative filtering and distributed databases. Financial services firms are urged to embrace electronic commerce and utilize intelligent agent sites to generate new business opportunities.

The definite implications of the Y2K problem is yet to be seen, but IT professionals can work on solutions for this problem, bearing in mind certain mishaps that might occur and preparing appropriate contingency plans.
