L. Gardner

Article Abstract:

L Gardner should gain access to the US aerospace industry through its acquisition of Cirqual, and borrowings should fall following the stock flotation of Direct Message. The borrowings are still high, and the company could be vulnerable to cyclical pressures.

Engine for growth

Article Abstract:

L.Gardner produces diesel engines and is well known for this activity, but the company is also developing its automobile and aerospace parts activities. These activities have been expanded through acquisitions and contracts from companies which outsource parts. Few United Kingdom companies have enough expertise to supply parts to larger firms outsourcing parts. Gardner supplies vehicle bodies in addition to its other activities and benefits from strong demand for buses.

L Gardner

Article Abstract:

L Gardner has performed well in terms of earnings growth, and has adjusted rapidly to changes in the market. The company supplies the locomotive, bus, and aerospace markets. Its customers include Henlys, which has increased orders from L Gardner. Astute acquisitions have been made to set up the aerospace business, and they include Exact Precision, acquired in 1996, and Ilkeston Aerospace, acquired in 1998. Increased volumes should help sustain the company's performance in this field, despite price pressure in the industry.
