Proteins emerge from disarray

Article Abstract:

DNA microarrays are effective tools for understanding the functional relationships between the large sets of genes now occupying various genome databases. Such arrays reveal relatively little information about the final concentrations of gene products in a cell and nothing about post-translational modifications despite their obvious value in gene expression profiling.

Engineered antibodies

Article Abstract:

The selection, humanization and production of antibodies have been revolutionized by the emergence of recombinant technologies, superseded hybridoma technology and allowed the design of antibody-based reagents of any specificity and for very diverse purposes. The recombinant antibodies have been reduced in size, rebuilt into multivalent molecules and fused with radionuclides, toxins, enzymes, liposomes and viruses.

Engineered antibody fragments and the rise of single domains

Article Abstract:

The study evaluates some of the emerging new technologies and describes the creation of a vast range of new, engineered, antibody-based fragments that specifically target biomarkers of human health and disease. The latest technologies used to deliver therapeutic 'payloads', such as radionuclides, drugs, enzymes and vaccine-including epitopes are also described.
