Enron trial opens

The long-awaited Enron trial finally opened in Houston, Texas, with the collapsed energy trading company's former chairman, Kenneth Lay, and chief executive, Jeffrey Skilling, facing charges of fraud and conspiracy. Prosecution witnesses have already pleaded guilty to crimes, and District Judge Sim Lake has stressed the importance of speeding things along, though the trial is still expected to last at least until May 2006.
