Emu to feather private client nests

Article Abstract:

European monetary union (Emu) will bring increased opportunities for private investors, as well as greater simplicity and transparency. Economic growth in the countries involved in Emu could be 3%, and will be affected by the extent to which economic convergence is achieved. A number of costs will be reduced, such as exchange rate costs, and intra-European commerce costs. Interest rates will be lower, so equities will be more attractive. Companies will also have to pay more attention to stockholders.

Attacked by Emu

Article Abstract:

European monetary union (Emu) involves the launch of a new currency in Jan 1999 in 11 countries in Europe, excluding Britain. British companies will still be affected if they trade with one of the countries involved. Companies in Manchester, England, are preparing themselves in a number of ways. Some companies are very aware of the issues involved, but there is concern that many companies will be unprepared. Emu involves opportunities for accounting and law firms, as well as problems.
