Euro team efforts flourish

Article Abstract:

US multinational firms are busy making preparations for the transition to the euro as the single currency's January deadline approaches. Galileo and BankBoston, whose businesses will be significantly affected by the change began forming special committees comprised of different department representatives to deal with the change. Concerns include currency reporting requirements and payroll conversions which will be directly affected by the new system. The firms will also have to rework internal systems to address any changes concerning customer relations.

WorldCom chief financial officer Scott Sullivan has successfully initiated a record $10 billion corporate bond issuance deal, which is regarded as the biggest of its kind. Sullivan believes the landmark deal may attract institutional investors reeling from the effects of the Asian crisis. The robust demand for WorldCom's bonds is credited to the firm's impressive track record for high profits and increasing credit rating from Standard and Poor.
