European mobilisation

Article Abstract:

The bid by Vodaphone for Mannesmann has led to debateson internet strategy and global domination. The mobile phone market is likely to be very profitable, and mobile internet services will also be included in the range of services. Consolidation is progressing, and the largest players are seen as likely to be the only ones in competition for the remaining independent operators in Europe. European operators will be under pressure once US companies are attracted to this market.

There are high profits to be made if the right market is selected, but emerging markets showed a more mixed performance in 1994 than in 1993, making some investors more cautious. Markets with good prospects for 1995 include Egypt and Bangladesh.
