Evaluating functional clothing in climatic chamber tests versus field tests: a comparison of quantitative and qualitative methods in product development

Article Abstract:

Climatic chamber tests and field trials were identified as two different approaches for evaluating functional clothing by human beings. Results showed that the objective measurements obtained by the two approaches established differences between the clothing regarding thermophysiological responses. These enabled a ranking of the clothing systems based on their thermal properties. Small differences in thermal sensation were found to affect the individual's preference for clothing. Thermophysiological and subjective responses to thermal environments differed between individuals.

The effects of sensory impairments on product experience and personal well-being

Article Abstract:

Roles that sensory modalities play in user-product interactions were determined by blocking one modality during execution of eight simple tasks and participants reported their experiences. Blocking of vision resulted in largest loss of functional information, increased task difficulty and duration and fostered dependency and product experiences increased in perceived intenseness.
