Exasperation over the no action bank

Article Abstract:

National Westminster bank (NatWest) is likely to seek an acquisition following the failure of a plan to merge with Abbey National. The bank needs a deal to boost returns on risk-weighted assets, and cost savings would have arisen from a deal with Abbey National. NatWest has a large investment banking arm which could man that potential partners see it as less attractive. The bank's stock price has not performed well, which has led to criticism of the chairman's pay levels and the role of the chief executive, Derek Wanless.
