Eyes on the enterprise

Article Abstract:

Many of today's most successful movies are heavily reliant on futuristic gadgets and props. To make these props believable, designers ensure that they are subject to the laws of nature but in more advanced versions. Movie studios rely on craftspeople at custom prop studios to come up with realistic-looking gadgets that will stand the scrutiny of lingering close-ups on film. Two of the best-known studios are NeoTek (Burbank, California) and Studio Art & Technology (Sun Valley, California).
