Watmoughs is a printer which has been affected by a rise in paper costs which hit demand for printed material. The company also lost a contract from the Mail on Sunday, and there is overcapacity in the market for web offset printing. There were reorganization costs for UK operations amounting to 1.14 million pounds sterling which affected results for 1st half 1996. The company's profit of forecast to rise to 25 million pounds sterling for 1996 according to UBS.

Photobition has increased the number of its electrostatic plotters to 13 in 1996 from six in 1995. Acquisitions will reduce overheads through incorporating them into Photobition's existing sites. The company also distributes digital equipment and has acquired its rival in this field in Jun 1996. The company could achieve a profit of some 4.5 million pounds sterling in 1996 to 1997, with orders buoyed up by new acquisitions.
