Farmer bargaining when purchasing machinery and fertilizer: a study in commercial negotiation

Article Abstract:

The bargaining practices of input-buying farmers are analyzed to determine the extent of their commercial negotiation and what factors affect the degree of bargaining in machinery and fertilizer purchases. Focus group interviews and a quantitaive telephone survey are the mothods used. Results indicate potential savings drive farmers to engage in bargaining and that those who make larger purchases tend to bargain more.
