Final phase

Article Abstract:

The London Stock Exchange is launching a quote-driven system called Stock Exchange Electronic Trading Service (Sets) which replaces Stock Exchange Automatic Quotation (Seaq) on Oct 20 1997. The system will initially be used for FTSE 100 stocks. Small investors will be excluded from the new system which imposes a minimum of 1,000 stocks where prices are less than 5 pounds sterling. Retail service providers are not obliged to deal and private investors may not be able to sell in the event of a crash.

Sid faces up to another chilly winter

Article Abstract:

UK private investors have been affected by a new private stock settlement system called Crest, and a further change is planned. Electronic order-driven trading will not be delayed, according to the Stock Exchange. The new system should help larger investors by giving more transparency, and trading costs should drop. This will not benefit most private investors due to a minimum deal size of 4,000 pounds sterling. Smaller deals have to go through retail services providers who may charge more.

Getting the best from a difficult set up

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom has introduced the Stock Exchange Electronic Trading Service (Sets) which affects all private investors trading in stocks in the FTSE 100 index. Stock prices may be affected by erratic swings due to poor liquidity at certain times of the day, and accurate prices may be difficult to obtain due to these price swings. Investors trading outside Sets deal with retail services providers who offer prices near thoseof Sets, but this may not last.
