Finax Gold Plus

Article Abstract:

Orchard Business Systems Ltd's 2,350 pound sterling accounting software package Finax Gold Plus is rated as a good, reliable product for standard accounts preparation. It is good in performance as well as support, and was designed by an accountant for accountants. It requires a hard disk microcomputer such as IBM or compatibles. Programs take up about two megabytes of disk space and 512k of RAM is required. A typical client's record will use 100 to 300k bytes of disk space. The system will run in a networked context. The user manual is well constructed and comprehensive. Help screens can be called up when needed. Finax has already been selected as the standard accounting software for five Scottish firms. Passwords are used for security. Finax lacks back-up and restore capability. Orchard has established customer service centers throughout the UK, including Edinburgh.

Sage Accountant Plus

Article Abstract:

Sagesoft's 199 pounds sterling Accountant Plus program is an impressive package for small businesses which have no more than a few hundred customers. The price is excellent for the value received, and ease of production and report quality are superior. It is a single-user system that does not work in multi-currency or multicompany contexts, however. Accountant Plus is not as powerful as some rival products, but does provide fully integrated nominal, purchase and sales ledgers, as well as sales invoicing, stock control, and a report generator. Creation of ledger accounts is simple. Sales and purchase ledger accounts operate on an open item basis. More help screens could have been added, and there are certain disadvantages in the input process. Security is average. Local support may be hard to find, since the package is inexpensive.
