Flexible spending time bomb

Article Abstract:

Treasurers must have a clear understanding of how healthcare flexible spending accounts work to avoid incurring enormous losses. Under these benefit programs, employees contribute pre-tax dollars during the year and withdraw from these for medical expenses. However, if an employee leaves after spending far beyond his contribution, the company's exposure is up to the annual limit while the employee with a negative balance does not owe the firm money. Losses have been huge for downsizing companies, when departing employees make use of their benefits before leaving the company.

Benchmarking Babylon

Analysts cite the inherent difficulty in benchmarking the treasury as the reason for its failure. Treasury practices vary from firm to firm and are replete with borrowing functions which benchmarking cannot evaluate efficiently.
