Floral Street reaches a development crossroad

Article Abstract:

Floral Street supplies promotional material and graphics equipment and carried out three acquisitions in 1996. The acquisitions added 66,000 pounds sterling to profit for 1995 to 1996 and should bring in 8 million pounds additional sales in 1997. The company's sales rose by 38% at 18.5 million pounds in 1996but pre-tax profit was down by 9% at 496,000 pounds. Floral Street needs to reduce its debt and improve operating margins. CJ Graphics which supplies the media and advertising industries, is to increase its contributionto dales and profit to some 67% in 1997 compared with some 50% in 1996.

Salehurst is a paper distributor specialising in supplying publishers of periodicals. Demand from periodical publishers is strong because periodicals are using more paper for each journal. Publishers are outsourcing paper supply using Salehurst, which uses just-in-time methods. Salehurst has benefited from strong customer loyalty and this is reinforced by its software system which is provided to major clients. The company's profit is forecast at 2.25 million pounds sterling for 1997 by Rowan Dartington.
