Foreign exchange desks eclipsed

Article Abstract:

Continental Airlines of Houston, TX, was able to streamline its foreign exchange operations by hiring nonbank dealers rather than dealing with foreign exchange desks. The airline adopted the International Currency Clearance Service, a European consolidation, clearing and foreign exchange transaction service from the International Air Transport Assn, and chose financial services firm Sonnet Financial to transact on its behalf. The move enabled Continental Airlines to use its leverage, solicit competing bids and obtain the best foreign exchange rates all at the same time.
