Fruits of the Far East

Article Abstract:

US foreign investors saw the 1997 financial crisis that hit Asia as an excellent opportunity for them to strengthen their presence in the region. Hence, they have increased their investments across Asia despite economists speculations of a worldwide recession. They took advantage of the steeply-reduced costs of assets, debt-strapped companies and relaxed mergers and acquisition regulation of the Asian countries. On the other hand, European investors became less active in Asia compared with their American counterparts. This move is believed to be influenced by the lack of financial stability fueled by a weak European economy and their focus on investing in central and eastern Europe as mandated by the union of the European community.
